Urgent Appeal

On April 30th, the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) informed MATCH International that our funding would not be renewed for our next cycle of projects. As CIDA funding represents seventy five percent of our total budget, this news came as a shock after a constructive relationship for more than three decades. In tandem with our partners and CIDA, we have collectively created a legacy of change for women and their families across the globe since 1976.

We remain Canada’s only international development organization that is gender specific. Our focus on women's increased participation in community life, access to services and decision making have left an indelible imprint on many lives. With this focus on women which is inclusive of families and whole communities, we and our partners are able to create greater social cohesion, prosperity and independence.

Although MATCH International faces an uncertain future, we hope to make this an interim period from which we can emerge with renewed determination and support to carry out this important work. We desire to continue our relationship with CIDA and are certain there remains strong sentiment in the Agency to retain MATCH as an invaluable partner towards fulfilling Canada’s international development goals and priorities.

We at MATCH extend this plea for you to support us in any way you can, both towards pushing the Federal Government to reconsider this action and towards keeping MATCH going as we push back and strive to continue fulfilling our mission of uplifting some of the most marginalized and vulnerable people in the world.
